Well, I know that there are a few English teachers who read my blogs (one of whom is my grandmother) as well as many other literary types, so I figured that sharing my reading endeavors while on this trip might be in order.  So:

Books I’ve already read:
  1. The Bible (Yes, I know that this is one of those “duh!” statements, but I still thought I’d include it.  My readings have focused in the psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah, the Gospels, Acts, Romans, 1 and 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, James, and 1 John.)
  2. Across the Spectrum: Understanding Issues in Evangelical Theology by Gregory A. Boyd and Paul R. Eddy
  3. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  4. The Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster
  5. Crabgrass & Oak Trees by Jonathon Almanzar and Aaron Havens
  6. Exiles by Michael Frost*
  7. Forgotten God by Francis Chan
  8. Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
  9. Live Forgiven by Jeff Warren*
  10. Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot
  11. The Prodigal God by Timothy Keller*
  12. The Same Kind of Different as Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore*
  13. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
  14. Searching for God Knows What by Donald Miller*
  15. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
  16. Under the Overpass by Mike Yankoski
  17. When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor or Yourself by Steve Corbett & Brian Fikkert
Currently Reading:
  1. The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer
Books I Plan to Read:
  1. Christ the Center by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
  2. The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
  3. Crazy Love by Francis Chan (a re-read)
  4. The Shack by William P. Young (a re-read)
  5. Possibly anything C.S. Lewis wrote.   I think our team has every book that he wrote with us, so we’ll see if I have time for any more.
* These are the books that have made a huge impact on me, and are my recommendations from this list.  They also best summarize many of the things I have been learning on this trip.  The others certainly had an impact on me and are not without their merit, but they have not been as significant to me. You may even notice that many of my blogs address topics contained in these books, whether they were written before I read the book or after.  God has used these books to either begin a line of teaching in my life or complete, for now, one such line.  I hope some of you will pick up some of these books and allow God to use them in your lives as well!
